Drinking water is one of the easiest ways to stay healthy. It's recommended that the average person drinks 2 liters (or a half gallon) of water everyday. There are numerous benefits to drinking more water including: increasing brain power and energy, promotes weight loss, flushes out toxins, improves the quality of your skin, boosts your immune system, prevents headaches and cramps, and improves heart health.
Most people don't keep track of how much water they drink each day, but with healthier lifestyles becoming more popular it's a safe assumption that more people are going to want to know how much water they're drinking. We thought instead of counting the number of 8 oz glasses you drink or carrying around a half gallon water jug with you it would be so much better to have a water bottle that keeps track of your water intake for you.
The water bottle has a HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensor placed at the top of the bottle. It's used to measure and record the distance from the top of the bottle to the top of the water. This value is recorded and converted into volume. When the recommended amount of water drank has been achieved, an LED will be switched on.
Here is a picture of the inside of the lid with the sensor attached.

This graph shows the change in distance measured by the HC-SR04 over time.
