The main objective of this project is to build a device to monitor and display indoor temperature measurements. As we approach the winter season, it is very important to monitor indoor temperature to establish effective protection and preparation. Knowledge of live temperature enables one to dress properly and protect ones self from diseases affiliated with improper dressing during cold weather. It also helps with proper food preservation in homes.
The project comprises of two particle photons. The two photons were first connected to a general WiFi service and flashed using the particle app. One of the photons receives signals directly from the temperature sensor and publishes it on the internet through google sheets. While the other communicates with the first photon, receives the signals and displays it on the OLED display screen in Fahrenheit measurement. The temperature sensor was able to receive measurements because of the unique code we developed. We utilized IFTTT maker service to easily graph the information sent to the google sheet from the temperature sensor. The voltage drop in the temperature sensors were activated through the code and measurements were then observed.
Observations and Conclusions
We decided to monitor the temperature of one of our homes to gather sufficient data of the workings of our device. Our most recent analysis was done on November 9th 2018 between the hours of 7:26 pm to 10:40 pm. The temperature was initially measured at 65.3 degrees Fahrenheit to a peak of about 180 degrees Fahrenheit and finally decreasing to a 69.57 degree Fahrenheit measurement. After this analysis, we concluded that our temperature sensor was a successfully functioning. The greatest advantage of building a personal temperature reading device is its accuracy and versatility.
